Well, it has been an interesting morning. We took Paul off the ventilator this morning. He is doing wonderful, is completely breathing on his own. He will be on a low-gauge ventilator at night, it seems he has developed a form of sleep apnea based on the fact that his lungs have not worked unassisted for over 3 weeks. He still has a low grade but dangerous fever, the origin of which the doctors cannot find. They are not horribly concerned however, as he is still receiving numerous antibiotics. He is still on daily dialysis, but not the continual. We expect his kidneys will make a complete recovery, it's just a matter of when at this point. He is alert and recognizing the kids and I, we still request NO VISITORS at this time, due to both his compromised immune system and the fact that HE requested no visitors when he came into the facility. Quite frankly he looks like hell and most likely prefers to not entertain at this point! I am relieved and altho I am still VERY concerned about the fever, I feel that we are on a SLOW road to recovery. He is still in the CCU where he will remain for at least several more days. Unless we hit any more significant hurdles, it appears that I am going to be stuck with him for a while longer!
I do not have the words to express my gratitude to EVERYONE who has helped us out. I am astounded and flattered at the response we have gotten in blood donations alone. Everyone has been so fantastic. Please pass this to those who may be interested and make sure they understand how very appreciative we are. Prayer and friends do indeed bring us thru hard times. Thank you so much!
