A new message from Toni MacDonald

Subject: Governor in Irvine Tuesday 03/22/05On Tuesday 22 March 2005, Governor Schwarzenegger will be attending a fundraiser at the Hyatt Regency Irvine benefiting "Citizens to Save California", which is a coalition of business and anti-tax groups formed to promote Governor Schwarzenegger's agenda.Donors will pay up to $100,000 to take photographs with Governor Schwarzenegger, as well as to attend the reception and dinner. Governor Schwarzenegger has estimated he will need to raise at least $50 million to promote his agenda this year: revamping the state's pension system; requiring judges, rather than lawmakers, to determine voting districts; giving teachers merit pay; expanding the governor's powers to restructure state bureaucracies; and installing a spending limit on state budgets.Governor Schwarzenegger's proposed pension plan will strip police officers and firefighters of their death and disability benefits. Families of public safety personnel will be left penniless and out in the cold. Law enforcement officers and firefighters injured in the line of duty would receive no compensation and could be forced to rely on public assistance -- we deserve better!Public safety personnel put their lives on the line every day to protect and serve. This plan is just heartless and wrong! We are asking for all public safety personnel, as well as their families and friends, to join us at 1700 on Tuesday 22 March 2005 at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, 17900 Jamboree (between Main and the I-405), as we ask Governor Schwarzenegger and his supporters not to abandon the families of our fallen heroes. Our brother and sister firefighters have already committed to joining us, as well as the teachers, but is imperative that law enforcement have a significant showing so that our voices can be heard. Bring signs and wear your association apparel.Lastly, please get the word out -- do not sign Governor Schwarzenegger's petition!

A Memo from Toni Mac Donald:

M E M O R A N D U M

From: Al Le Bas, Executive Director
To: Board of Directors and Advisory Board
Date: March 14, 2005
Subj: Assembly Bill 483 authored by Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez
AB 483 the Bill that will extend the “Life” of the CPOMF on the California Franchise Tax Individual Income Tax return for another five years has been set for its’ initial hearing in the Assembly Revenue and Tax Committee at 1:30 p.m., April 4.
If CPOMF is to survive fiscally it is imperative that AB 483 make it through the Legislative “maze” to the Governor’s desk for his signature.
Jim Vogts and I will be lobbying AB 483 up front, but it is most important that we “flood” the Legislature with support from the associations and organizations represented by our Board members and Advisors.
For openers, a brief letter of support should be sent to:
Honorable Johan Klehs, Chairman
Assembly Revenue and Taxation Committee
1020 “N” Street, Room 162
Sacramento, CA 95814
cc: Committee Members Mimi Walters, Joe Canciamilla, Chuck DeVore, Judy Chu, Dave Jones, Sally Lieber
Your letter need not be lengthy, the expression of support is important. A simple urging of “an “aye” vote so that CPOMF can continue to provide the critically needed assistance and support to the most worthy survivors of the heroic California peace officers who have laid down their lives in the “Line of Duty” should suffice.
If you happen to have one of the Rev. and Tax Committee members serving as your own friendly Legislator a phone call expressing support of
AB 483 would be most appropriate.
